Match Report
by Malky
Going into the game, many match goers were predicting a low scoring affair due to unavailability of the Brazilian hotshot strikers in each side. The budding bromance between both sets of fans prior to the match certainly wasn't noticed by the players as a fiery contest saw three dismissals.
Singh Tarua had to shuffle the pack as several first team regulars were unavailable for various reasons. Within four minutes, the makeshift side were behind when an unmarked Pipob headed Chakrit's curling free kick past Nattapol.
The defending for the first goal was bad enough but it was easy eclipsed by the second as Tarua's third choice keeper dithered in possession. His effort to clear was charged down by Pipob and the ball landed kindly for Adul allowing him time to run into the box and calmy sidefoot home.
With only 11 minutes played, it appeared it was going to be a routine day at the office for Chonburi. However, the Sharks let Sirichai slalom through their back line and the deficit was reduced two minutes later.
The first half was fairly feisty but it all boiled over early in the second period. A bout of handbags between Chonlatit and Lee Sang Ho resulted in a caution for the pair. Moments later Anderson dos Santos got involved with Sang Ho. The Korean then brushed his mop of hair down Anderson's face knocking the the big man onto the deck. Anderson did make a meal of it but what happened next was inexcusable. Sang Ho had to be restrained by several players as he attempted to attack the referee after the man in the middle dismissed him. Watching him leave the pitch was like viewing a disgruntled Saturday night drunkard being ejected from the local night club.
The referee was quite clearly shaken and to even things up he swiftly issued Pipob two yellow cards to make it ten versus ten.
With Lee Sang Ho tied up in Hannibal Lecter restraints in the locker room, Singh Tarua lost their main presence in the centre of the field.
In the 79th minute, Chonburi made the game safe when Jackie Diakite converted from the spot after Kushida had been felled by Jakkapong in the box.
The contest was over but the referee wasn't finished as he gave Chonlatit a second yellow card in the 88th minute. It was slightly harsh but he probably felt obliged to even things up again after awarding Chonburi a penalty ten minutes earlier.
The 3-1 victory moved Chonburi above Singh Tarua on goal difference. Chonburi visit Muangthong in two weeks time and the outcome of that match could make or break their season. Tarua are already without their top scorer Leandro due to injury and they will most likely lose their best defensive minded player for a period. Three loses in a week now has the Tarua fans wondering if they are at the beginning of a downward spiral.
