New!! Season Review by Kevin Aamlid: 2022

What are your impressions of the season overall?
Good, bad, ugly is the best way to describe it. I enjoyed the first half of the season a lot. There was a lot of optimism. Then results started getting worse and the team just looked extremely average compared to the top teams in the Thai league. Towards the end of the season, the whole squad looked like they just wanted the season to be over. Even despite the fact that we made it to the League Cup semifinals…which we lost of course to Prachuap.

Who was our best player?
Worachit… we were doing very well before he left. Mostly downhill from there ever since. Perhaps the board have realized by now that selling your best player, tends to make your team worse. Throughout the whole season though, Yoo Byung-Soo looked really good. He started off the season without any goals, but once he started scoring, it was clear how important to the team he was. Glad he decided to stay on.

Who was our most disappointing player?
Kroekrit. Our captain. He does not look captain material at all. These days he isn’t even good enough to start matches. When he does come on, he doesn’t make much a difference at all. He’s extremely average even by Thai league standards.

Which was our best overall team performance?
Seven – Nil against Khon Kaen Utd. The amount of goals we scored in that match says it all.

Which was our worst performance?
Losing to Nakhon Ratchasima at home. Usually I enjoy almost every trip to Chonburi Stadium, but this was one of those trips that made me think  twice about going to the next match. Very hard to watch. The players did not seem to want it.

What are your opinions on Sasom?
I do think he is doing the best possible job he can with the resources  he was given. He makes some bizarre tactical judgements at times, but overall, I’m glad he is here.

What are your thoughts on his new three year contract?
Hopefully he can take his time to build the team the way he likes. It’s a tough job, but perhaps given some time with the resources he has, things may work out.

What do you think the club have got right off the field this season?
It is very difficult for me to find some positives, but the continuous development of youth is something I’ve always appreciated. The new  scoreboard is also nice, it has needed some replacement for a long time.

And what have they got wrong?
Selling our best players to other Thai League teams was probably a horrible bit of judgement, our results after the sale of Worachit is a clear indication of that. Perhaps if they sold him to a team abroad, it wouldn’t feel as bad. Also, it is great having a lot of academy players play for the first team, but the youth and inexperience show. We really need more experienced players in the squad that would not make the same mistakes as some of our youngsters.

Which players would you keep next season?
Kritsada for sure. He is crucial and a vital part to our team. Denis and Yoo also contribute a lot to the team.

And who would you let go?
Kroekrit. A captain who adds little value to our on field performance. Hard to watch at times. He definitely isn’t as good as many of the youth and not as hungry to perform.

Which was your favourite away trip?
Unfortunately I only went to one away game to Ratchaburi. It was a fun trip overall but wouldn’t say I enjoyed the match too much. Ratchaburi were one man down throughout most of the match and we still couldn’t look dangerous against them.

What are your hopes for next season?
Keep hold of our best players, sign players that would add value to the first team, only give the youth first team football when they are ready and reduce the amount of on field mistakes.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
Hope for the best next season. Hope we can learn from our previous mistakes and become a competitive Thai League team once again.
