Twin Thai Threats By Aidan Ormond: 2011

In September, 2011, I was sent a copy of the matchday programme from the World Cup qualifier between Thailand and Australia in Brisbane (thanks, Andy). The Socceroo was packed with articles and photos and was very reasonably priced at AUD10 (THB300). There were a lot of positive things written about Thai football and the then coach, Winifried Schafer; Aussie legend John Aloisi was particularly complimentary. Chonburi also got a fair bit of coverage.

Below I have reproduced a short feature on Suree ("the man who put on an eye-catching performance against the Socceroos in 2007") and Surat Sukha taken from the magazine's profile on Thailand.

TWIN THAI THREATS
The Sukha Brothers Could Be Key Tonight
by Aidan Ormond
The Thai team features twins the Sukha brothers. Melbourne Victory fans can tell you all about Surat, the feisty, hard-working right back who caught the eye at Chonburi in the AFC Champions League and ended up being the first Thai to ply his trade in the Hyundai A-League.

In recent months, Surat returned Thailand to play for Provincial Electric Authority. In the national team the 29 year old is usually positioned as a defensive midfielder, offering cover to his twin brother Suree, who regularly bombs forward from the right side of defence.

Suree was one of three Thai players signed by Manchester City in 2007 and was one of the stars for Thailand last time they played the Qantas Socceroos at the AFC Asian Cup in 2007.

Capped around 50 times for his country, Suree is a Chonburi legend having played around 200 times over two stints during his career.

The brothers will need to be on top form if Thailand are to come away from Brisbane with a good result.
