CHONBURI CLINCH KING'S TROPHY
by Tor Chittinand
Chonburi FC fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Buriram United and then won 4-3 on penalties to lift the King's Trophy yesterday.

A last-gasp goal by Ludovick Takam gave Chonburi a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes and the Sharks beat the Thunder Castle in a penalty shoot-out at Supachalasai stadium.

The King's Trophy is the season's curtain-raiser as the Thai Premier League will kick off this weekend.
Normally it pits the Thai Premier League champions against the FA Cup winners but Buriram won the league and the FA Cup last season so Chonburi, who finished second in the TPL, were picked for the game.

Buriram, who also won the League Cup last season, were the better side in the first half and raced to a 2-0 lead in a one-minute spell.

Theeratorn Boonmathan gave Buriram the lead after 31 minutes and Frank Acheampong made it 2-0 seconds later.

The Sharks fought back spiritedly and cut the deficit to 2-1 just before half-time when Adul Lasoh scored from close range.

Chonburi started strongly in the second half and kept piling the pressure on Buriram.

Deep into injury time, new signing striker Takam earned a draw for the Sharks. The match had to be decided in a shoot-out and Kazuta Kushida hit the winner for Chonburi.
