Match Report

Chonburi eased to victory in this our penultimate league match at the Sports College Stadium. Two goals by Pipob On-Mo, one either side of half time, were enough to see off a very poor TOT side. Jadet raised a few eyebrows with his selection but it seems that his decision was the correct one and the extra rest afforded to our first choice players missing from last night's line up will benefit the team on Sunday.

The heavy rain just prior to kick off meant that conditions were initially difficult and a number of players had problems keeping their footing. However, the home side seemed to adapt more quickly and were soon passing the ball around and looking comfortable in possession, as they looked to break down what looked like a 4-5-1 formation.

The opening goal came from a right wing corner midway through the first half. The returning Arthit swung in a left footed cross and Pipob On-Mo nipped in at the near post to slot the ball home. It took a while to register that we had scored but realisation soon dawned as the diminutive striker wheeled away to celebrate in front of the fans in the South Stand. However, the celebrations had barely subsided when the visitors stormed up the other end to create their only real chance of the night. But, fortunately for the rather static defenders, the TOT forward somehow contrived to blast the ball high over the bar from six yards out and with the goal at his mercy.

Normal service was resumed almost immediately as Chonburi went in search of a second goal. It eventually came late on in the second half with the club captain once again the scorer. The remainder of the match was played out in a fairly low key manner but there was still time for one moment of controversy. Substitute Dave Simpson thought he had scored a third but the linesman on the far side had other ideas. From where I was sitting, virtually level, it looked like he had timed his run perfectly. On any other day the fans would have been baying for blood but the three points were already secure so the decision was met with little more than a collective shrug of the shoulders.

Finally, I'd just like to say a few words about the visiting supporters. All thirty of them, in our lowest home league crowd of the season, deserve a lot of credit for their behaviour last night. They never stopped singing, and banging their drum, even though they had very little to cheer about. They were huddled together on the North Stand terrace, exposed to the elements and about as far away from the pitch as it is possible to get and still be inside the ground. Fair play to you guys, true football fans.
