Port fan, Tommie Duncan, shares his thoughts on his team's chances for the season ahead.
Minimal at best. No fans at first, using an app to access matches on TV...no fun.
How do you think the lack of a regular pre season will affect your early performances?
Port played in the ACL which you think would help, but with Port, you never know. I imagine the first of the season will see some pretty lackluster and sloppy play.
What are your thoughts on the plan for the way the season will start? And what would you have done differently?
We'll see. I'm not sure what I would have done. Bubble areas? It's a tough situation no matter what you do. And very difficult to plan with things constantly changing.
How long do you think it will be before things can return to "normal"?
I think we are looking at the first of next year at best, but really think everything will be as close to normal as possible by Songkhran of next year. It's going to take time, Even with high vaccination rates Israel is having a tough time with Delta. It's just not looking promising.
How do you plan to follow the matches you're not allowed to attend?
Guess it's AIS Play.
Once fans are allowed back in, which home games are you most looking forward to?
I enjoy all home games, but of course MTU!
And which away games are you most looking forward to?
CRUTD and Chiang Mai will be nice trips.
What are your thoughts on your team's opening four fixtures?
Port usually perform well at the first of the season. With a new coach, it will be interesting to see if this still holds true.
What do you make of your new signings?
Meh, not amazingly excited about any of them. Still don't have the big nasty Victor type CB or a really amazing keeper. Hopefully Baggio will excel. Probably more excited about Dusit as coach than I am about the new players.
And what about the players you've let go?
Not happy to see Bonilla depart (assume he is back to BU), Think he would have made an impact this season. Not sure Patino is the man.
Which players will have the most impact this season?
Hard to tell. Sure the usual suspects, Suarez, Pakorn, etc.
If you could re-sign one of your club's former players, at the peak of his powers, who would it be and why?
Leandro for sure.
If you could give your head coach one piece of advice, what would it be?
Fitness, diet, and discipline.
What do you think of your club's new kits?
Not bad, the home kit is quite nice.
What song would you choose for your team's run out music on match days?
I still like This is Khlongtoey. No idea why they stopped playing it.
Who are your favourites to win the league?
Glass for sure. They are the strongest squad by far.
Who else do you think can challenge?
Burriram might have a shot depending on the quality of foreigners they sign.
Who is going down?
Honestly I haven't spent that much time looking at the teams, so I don't have a clue.
Which team would you most like to beat this season?
Glass, as they are the class of the league at the moment.
Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Each and every year it gets tougher and tougher to stay engaged. Even without the pandemic the league is just not as compelling for me as it was over a decade ago when I started going to matches. It would be nice to see them get it together, become more fan oriented, and really develop a top class league ala Japan and Korea. I'm not holding my breath.
