Match Report
On April 25th, 2004 Chonburi visited Sisaket for a Pro League fixture and were on the receiving end of a 5-0 thumping. I don't think that it is an exaggeration to say that Saturday's result could, and should, have been something similar. The home side missed a hatful of easy chances that, come the end of the season, might cost them dearly. Sisaket started off brightly and put Chonburi under a lot of pressure. So it was something of a surprise, and certainly against the run of play, when Nlome Ndebi Berlin finished well to round off a neat breakaway attack and give us the lead.

However, all this strike did was to inspire the orange shirted forwards to lay siege to Sinthaweechai's goal. On seventeen minutes they got their rewards, when a penalty was awarded following Nattapong's shove on an attacker. There was no doubt in my mind that it was the correct decision but the blue shirted players obviously felt differently and a rather embarrassing melee followed. I don't know why we get involved in this sort of stuff but it isn't really doing our reputation much good. And I wish we would cut it out. Once things had settled down again, Victor Amaro's "straight down the middle" spot kick was saved by a trailling leg. The visiting supporters went wild and the players celebrated a lucky escape.

The rest of the match was more or less a catalogue of poor finishing from a team who really need to start winning games. The Chonburi defence was all over the place as Sinthaweechai was exposed to numerous one on ones. How Sisaket didn't score at least once is a complete mystery to me. They hit the woodwork, the keeper made some good saves and the ball found the side of the net, rather than the back of it, at least five times. I guess when it ain't your day, it ain't your day.

On the other hand, we huffed and puffed and only played well in patches. Not particularly inspiring but three points is three points and, goodness knows, we've been on the wrong end of results like this in the past so I'm not complaining. Performance aside, this was a great day out. There was a cracking atmosphere at the stadium and, after the game, the two sets of fans came together for an impromptu disco/party, with the music being supplied by the Chonburi Fan Club bus sound system. None of us wanted to leave but eventually we all boarded our coaches for the long, long trek home. Happy in the knowledge that we'd got away with daylight robbery and had fun in the process.
