New! Season Previews - 10. Chonburi: 2022

Here's Kevin with our tenth season preview.

1. What are your expectations for your club in the season ahead?
Probably a mid table finish or just above.

2. How have your pre season preparations gone?
Don’t think we did too well in the pre season. Drawing to persija’s B team and not doing so well against other Thai clubs.

3. What are your thoughts on your team's opening four fixtures?
Tero, BG, Buriram & Lamphun will be very difficult. We will have to be at our best to get some points from them.

4. What do you make of your new signings?
A little bit of hit and miss. Pretty satisfied with Chalermpong & very happy with Sumanya. They are both near retirement age but definitely still posses some quality, especially Sumanya. Not so happy with Amadou, thought we could have done better there. Don’t think Danilo Alves is better than Murillo and I expect Zaw Min Tun will be more of a back up. Glad to have Channarong back though.

5. And what about the players you've let go?
Needed to be done. They were pretty much considered deadwood. Will miss Junior though, he was decent but injured for a lot of the time. Kanyuk also had his moments but don’t think he will be missed too much.

6. Which players will have the most impact this season?
Hopefully Sumanya can take a role of playmaker just as Worachit was, when Worachit left, it’s fair to say we struggled badly. Hoping Danilo can score us some goals. Also hoping Kelic can be solid at the back.

7. If you could bring back one of your club's former coaches, who would it be?
None of them really. I think the club needs to look forward and try to develop to better standards.

8. If you could give your current head coach one piece of advice, what would it be? And your owners?
Please only give chances to the youth if they are ready. As for the owners, please let the manager build the team he wants and apply the tactics he wants. Don’t get too involved in the choices the coach makes.

9. Which home games are you most looking forward to?
Buriram is always fun, maybe perhaps BG as well. The stadium tends to fill up nicely when those matches are played.

10. And which away games are you most looking forward to?
It’s got to be Buriram away and the first match of the season against Tero.

11. What do you think of your club's new kits?
Thought they were nice, unfortunately the largest size may be too small for me so I won’t bother ordering. On that note, I think we should get rid of Nike. Expensive and I’ve been pretty bored with having to pre order kits.

12. Who are your favourites to win the league?
Either Buriram or BG. They always seem to make ambitious signings

13. Who else do you think can challenge?
Maybe Port, perhaps they would want to challenge after a disappointing season.

14. Who is going down?
Can’t see Khon Kaen staying up. Don’t think Lampang will stay up either. Perhaps Prachuap will go down as well. Just don’t think they have the quality.

15. Which team would you most like to beat this season?
It’s always great to beat Buriram, BG & Port. Think they may have to best squads. There is something satisfying about beating them. MuangThong is another club I hope we beat, mainly due to us being old rivals.

16. Who will be this season's surprise package?
Hopefully Chonburi

17. What changes would you make to improve the Thai league?
Would be nice if they could stop checking for vaccines. Pretty annoying having to show 3 different forms of identification/documentation before entering the stadiums

18. Which visiting fans are you most looking forward to seeing at your stadium?
Mainly Lampang and Lamphun. Always interested to see how the fans of recently promoted clubs are like.

19. What are your match day superstitions and routine?
Don’t really have one, but if I don’t have a plate of chicken rice or a can of beer, it doesn’t feel right.

20. Is there anything else you'd like to add?
Hopefully Chonburi can be a respected team again. Don’t really like it when supporters of other teams have a soft spot for us. Rather be hated by them. Maybe we need another player similar to Thiago Cunha here.
