On The Road - Army Stadium: 2012

A report on my trip to Army Stadium in May, 2012.

Stadium
Thai Army Sports Stadium, Bangkok

Transport
Car

Cost
B500 petrol
B280 tolls

Distance
257kms round trip

Travelling Time
4 hours 17 minutes

Match Ticket
B100

Programme
None available but I did pick up a copy of Soccer Mania, a monthly magazine that covers Thai football in general. However, there was nothing in there that related to either Army United or Chonburi.

Club Shop
I didn't make it to the club shop on this occasion.

Away End
Two thirds of the concrete terracing behind the goal in the south stand. No seats.

Staff
Very friendly and helpful. Two of the stewards let us inside to use the toilets after our arrival and before we'd purchased tickets. However, I didn't really understand why the half a dozen or so security guards had to stand on the running track facing the away fans for the duration of the match. This seemed totally unnecessary.

Food
Plenty available. Lots of food stalls outside the away end selling the usual pork and chicken etc. Also, two eating places under the corner of the main stand sold a wide variety of Thai dishes at a reasonable price.

Beer
Three cans of Chang for B100 bought from the back of a pick up manned by enterprising Chonburi fans outside the away end. A large bottle of Chang cost B50 in the aforementioned covered eating places. Beer, in plastic cups, was allowed inside the stadium. There were no restrictions on food or other drinks either. Why our club continues with this daft policy of not letting people in with food and drink baffles me. Everyone else is cool with it, why aren't we?

Overall Experience
Apart from the result, this was a very enjoyable evening. I enjoyed a pre match drink with some friendly home supporters and we, as a group, were made to feel most welcome. The car parking was close to the turnstiles and well organised, allowing us to get in and out with the minimum of fuss.
