On The Road - Bangkok Glass: 2012

In 2012, I started a regular feature called 'On the Road', where I would report on the match day experiences at all the grounds I visited following Chonburi. Here's the first article I wrote, about a trip to the Leo Stadium - the home of Bangkok Glass - in March.

Stadium
Leo Stadium, Thanyaburi, Pathum Thani

Transport
Fan club bus from SriRacha

Cost
B220

Travelling Time
3 hours

Match Ticket
B120

Programme
Free. Glossy A3 sheet folded into four. Includes both squad lists, Bangkok Glass ticket and fan club information, photos and  a couple of paragraphs by head coach Surachai Jutturapattarapong. The whole thing opens out to a large poster of Bangkok Glass player Saruta Hironori.

Club Shop
Situated behind the three tier stand at the southern end of the ground (R Zone). Large, well stocked and staffed by very helpful assistants. A ticket and queueing system operates for purchases, which seemed to work efficiently.

Away End
Just under half of the area behind the north goal. Concrete terracing, no seats. Good view but we were behind a large mesh.

Staff
Very friendly and helpful. However, the stewards inside the stadium ignored polite requests from the visiting fans to open the gates so we could have more space. This could have caused problems but, thankfully, the large travelling contingent were extremely well behaved.

Food
B100 for sausages and look chin from a stall outside the ground. Friendly service and the food was OK.

Beer
Four cans of Chang for B100 bought from the back of a pick up truck owned by Chonburi fans. The local beer was very expensive - B80 for a medium sized plastic cup. Drinks can be taken inside the stadium in plastic cups.

Overall Experience
A very enjoyable day out. A relaxed atmosphere outside the ground with both sets of fans mixing freely without any problems and a good atmosphere inside, generated by the 10,000+ crowd during a fairly average game.

The car parking was well organised and we got in and out without any problems, thanks to the car park attendants.

Only quibble was with the stewards, who should have used their common sense and let some Chonburi fans into the vacant section to ease the overcrowding.
