Chonburi 0-1 Bangkok Glass - FA Cup Final Report by Jason Withe: 2014

CHONBURI 0-1 BANGKOK GLASS
Exclusive match report by Jason Withe for www.clubwebsite.co.uk/chonburifc

Chonburi FC
(Started the game playing an attacking 4-4-2 formation)
18 (Goalkeeper) - Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool
5 (Right Back) - Niweat Sriwong
11 (Left Back) - Korakot
6 (Central DefenderStopper) Suttinun Phukhom
26 (Central Defender/Stopper) Anderson dos Santos
4 (Central Midfielder) Yuki Bamba
19 (Central Midfielder) Adul Lahso
7 (Wide Right) Chakrit Buathong
3 (Wide Left) Natthapong Samana
20 (Forward - but drops into hole behind Pipob) Julianio Mineiro
10 (Forward) Pipob On-Mo

Both wingers stayed very wide for Chonburi, giving the team width and causing problems for Bangkok Glass down the flanks. Chonburi were prepared to hit big, diagonal passes, certainly in the first half. 10 Pipob stretched Bangkok Glass and was always looking for the ball in behind, playing very much on the shoulders of the central defenders. This was enabling Mineiro to drop short in the space between the central defenders and the midfield.

The only problem was Chonburinot finding space centrally and the majority of their attacks were down the flanks. The deliveries from set pieces from Chakrit & Korakot were always dangerous and balls put in with pace are always difficult to defend against.

As the game wore on for Chonburi and the more pressure they were put under, they resorted to high balls forward. This suited Bangkok Glass, playing against a small striker in Pipob. I know his strengths are playing it into his feet. When I had him as a player at BecTeroSasana, I worked on getting the ball into his feet and his remit was to get defenders turned. Unfortunately, he never got this type of service.

I was a little surprised to see Niweat playing right back marking and No.11 for BG, as his best position is usually as a central defender. Although he is comfortable on the ball, I was unsure he could cope with the pace of No.11

Bangkok Glass FC
(4-2-3-1 formation)
1 (Goalkeeper) Narit Taweekul
2 (Right Back) Wasan Homsaen
36 (Left Back) Suwannapat Kingkaew
3 (Central Defender/Stopper) Teruyuki Monewa
5 (Central Defender/Stopper) Praweenwat Boonyong
15 (Central Midfield) Puritat Jarigarnon
14 (Central Midfield) Peerapong Pichitchotirat
21 (Right Midfielder) Jetsadakorn Hemdaeng
11 (Left Midfielder) Lazarus Kaimbi
22 (Attacking Midfielder) Darko Taveski
20 (Forward) Baze Ilijoski

Having played and beaten Bangkok Glass a few weeks ago, I was familiar with their strengths and weaknesses. Their biggest threat is DarkoTaveski, who plays off the striker and is very effective when passing. When we played them, we played a holding midfield player picking him up and what we did was to overcrowd the midfield, making it difficult to get the ball into him and not to allow him any time or space on the ball. Unfortunately for Chonburi, they allowed him far too much space, allowing him time to turn and make too many key passes.

I was impressed with how Bangkok Glass counter attacked and they looked a real threat centrally. Although they moved Lazarus Kaimbi to right midfield in the second half, and then as a centre forward for the last 15-20minutes, he had two good chances to score but failed to even work the keeper. However, he came up with the goods to score to win the game. Although it was a bit of a scrappy goal, his pace is always a threat.

On reflection, I thought Bangkok Glass deserved the win. They looked more of a threat going forward - certainly on the counter attack. Although Chonburi had a game plan in the first half - getting the ball out wide quickly - the more the game went on the less and less this happened. Chonburi failed to deal with Darko, who caused them trouble with his counter attacking and link up play. If you look at chances created, Bangkok Glass just edged it for me.
