Fan Review Of The Season by John Lees: 2014

FAN REVIEW OF THE SEASON
23rd November, 2014

Our regular correspondent John Lees looks back at the 2014 season.

What is your overall assessment of the season?
We did better than expected. It was still heart-breaking to get so close to winning the double and then walk away empty handed.

Who is your player of the season?
For the impact made in games played I’d say Thiago. Even though he missed a large chunk of the season through injury, his presence in the second half of the season made a massive difference.

What was the biggest improvement this season?
Until the cup final, I’d say the general tactics and team spirit. Under Heng, the whole club was stale. Wada at least freshened things up especially in the second half of the season.

Who were the major disappointments this season?
Some of the foreign signings. Yuki Bamba and Araujo are Division 1 standard, and as for Jaime, don’t get me started………

What was your favourite and least favourite home match?
Got to be one of the home wins over Buriram or Muang Thong.

And your least favourite?
Possibly the Thai Port match. It was such a frustrating performance against a side that had been on a woeful run.

What was your favourite and least favourite away match?
Favourite:  The second half against ToT in the cup was special. Thiago and Minerio were lethal that night.

Least favourite:  Bangkok Utd away. Losing two goals in injury time after an abject performance just rubbed salts in our wounds. The fact that the match finished about 11pm didn’t help matters either.

What was the most disappointing game?
Losing the FA Cup final to Bangkok Glass. The team selection was bizarre to say the least. With the coach resigning immediately after it, you can only assume influences from upstairs were to blame for the farcical events.

What type of new players would you like to see coming to the club?
I think the young lad Peerapat from BEC Tero could do a good job at left back. Also why not try to coax Chanathip (Messi J). He has the potential to be the next Therdsak. Chappuis would be a good purchase but I can’t see us wrestling him away from Suphanburi. With only five foreigners allowed, we need quality. Most likely we’ll have Leandro, McGrath, and possibly two others that are already on our books. For the remaining spot, I’d like Chonburi to sign a top class box-to-box foreign midfielder.

Which players are surplus to requirements?
Sadly father time has caught up with Pipob. The same could be said of Niweat who is a liability at the back. Also time to clear out the lads that we keep loaning out. Players like Kraikitti, Wanit and Sukree aren’t good enough. So why keep them!!

How would you assess the head coach’s achievements?
He got off to a decent start despite the lack of fresh blood. Towards the end of Leg 1, cracks appeared in our paper thin squad and it went rather flat. However, Wada had obviously familiarised himself with the opposition in the early part of the year and by Leg 2 we were looking a new team with Thiago and Minerio up front. At the end of the day, he didn’t win any trophies but he should be applauded for having us punching above our weight.

Given the chance what would you say to the club management?
Why can’t we take food and drink into the stadium? The majority of other TPL clubs allow fans this privilege. 99% of us are being punished because a handful of morons can’t be trusted to behave themselves.

What are your hopes for next season?
Simple. To win some silverware.
