Zico’s Rotation Makes Chonburi Dizzy
by Klaus Liedecke
After Kosin, Ekaphan, Adul and Kone had already dropped out due to injuries, Zico allowed himself the luxury of leaving Pipop, Arthit and Byrne on the bench. And, what was virtually a “B Eleven”, weren't able to put the screws on Osotspa.
Only after Byrne and Arthit were brought on early in the second half did things improve. However, the result was pretty much decided by then. But there was still time for Chonburi to give themselves some hope.
A Michel Byrne cross was headed home by Benie to make it 2-1 on 72 minutes and another goal nearly followed when the same pair were involved in a similar build up. But on this occasion the quick thinking of the Saraburi keeper denied them.
we could discuss the power cut and the 35-minute interruption – as the lights went out in the “new” stadium – yet this issue is far less important than the question: “Didn’t this club (didn’t Zico) actually want to make it into the next round?” - after all the FA Cup winners are guaranteed qualification for next season's AFC Cup - or did Zico simply underestimate our opponents?
At the end of a season, when decisive games take place, you mustn’t make wholesale changes any more. At this stage in the campaign the best players are the ones who suffer and sweat it out. The winter break is long enough for recharging their batteries again.
It remains to be seen who’ll take the field on Saturday…
Order of goals:
Osotspa 1-0 Chonburi 44. Min
Osotspa 2-0 Chonburi 58. Min
