My interview with local football fan, and casual Pattaya Utd supporter, Darren Alldis, from March, 2010.
Interview With Darren Alldis
31st March, 2010
Q Were you able to get to many of Pattaya United's pre season games?
A Yes. I managed to get to about 3 or 4.
Q How did the team perform?
A It's difficult to say really. They used a lot of substitutes and trialists.
Q Any particular players catch the eye?
A Number 10, Tana Chanabutr, is extremely fast. Also number 20, Ludo, again very fast and strong. The number 27, Ricardinho, plays in the Brazilian style and he's good on the ball. Finally, number 29, Richard Langley ex QPR, still looks a good player.
Q Things didn't really go as planned last season. Why do you think this was?
A The team was simply not good enough.
Q Do you think it would have been more beneficial for Pattaya United to have started in Regional League 2 and work their way up the leagues, rather than just buying their way into the top flight?
A Yes, it would have been much better to have let the club grow slowly.
Q Crowds at Nong Prue haven't been that impressive. What do you think this is?
A The football on show needs to get better and Pattaya need to have a good season this time around. Maybe then the crowds might get bigger.
Q Do you think the crowds will improve when they move to the new stadium?
A Again, you still need a good side to fill stadiums.
Q How has the large local ex-pat community taken to Pattaya United and TPL football?
A I think that more ex pats are getting into the TPL.
Q What sort of coverage does the club get in the local press?
A The mayor of Pattaya is heavily involved with Pattaya United so they are in the news a lot.
Q How does the club try to attract fans to the ground?
A They have a club shop in the town and there are many posters all around Pattaya advertising home games.
Q How do you think Pattaya United will perform this season?
A I think they will have a better season than last time out, maybe mid table.
Q Do you think there is a lot of pressure on the team to perform well?
A No, not really.
Q Care to give us a score prediction for Sunday?
A 2 - 2
Q Anything else you'd like to add?
A I'd just like to say that I think Chonburi and Bankok Glass will do well this year. And I'd also like to wish all supporters of Thai football an enjoyable season.
