Chonburi v South China - Match Preview: 2014

My Do It Yourself match preview for the Chonburi v South China AFC Champions League qualifier on 9th February. 2014.

The 2014 campaign gets underway on Sunday, when South China will be the visitors for an AFC Champions League play off tie. Expectations for the forthcoming season at Chonburi Stadium are (high/low/non existent) and most fans are anticipating (winning at least one trophy/finishing in the top six/another year of mediocrity).

New coach, Masahiro Wada, will be given (a warm welcome/time/hell, if we're not three up by half time), as he endeavours to take the club (on in leaps and bounds/slowly forward/down).
The players will certainly be (motivated for/turning up for/dreading) the big game, after a (relaxing break in Phuket/a week's training/an endless stream of unnecessary friendlies) and will be keen to (progress to the next round/give it a go/keep the score respectable).

A lot will depend on how our key players perform. In defence, new left back Korakot Wiriyaudomsiri has (impressed/played/exasperated us) during pre season and Noppanon on the right, has been (steady/steady/steady). However, the big question will be who plays in the middle? Losing Suttinun through injury is a (blow/big loss/catastrophe) but thankfully we do have enough (talent/players/bloody centre halfs) to cover his absence.

In midfield, the (impressive/reliable/over-rated) Kushida will need to (be at his creative best/perform/pull his bloody finger out) against his hard working South China counterparts.

Up front, I expect Thiago to (give the Hong Kong side a torrid time/get booked/ruin everything with some needless histrionics) but it will also be interesting to see who partners him. Pipob is (still effective/a reliable foil/too slow) and Kiakitti In-Utane is (a trier/short on experience/useless).

In addition to the aforementioned Korakot, there will also be a few other new faces on display, as the club was (busy/active/exposed as clueless) during the transfer window. The signings we made are (encouraging/unspectacular/baffling), with the capture of the (experienced/ageing/has-been) Niweat Siriwong from (local rivals. first division/laughing stock) Pattaya Utd, the most (exciting/unexpected/worrying).

As for the match, I'm expecting us to (win/scrape through/get dumped out). However, the next match - away in China against Beijing Guoan  - will be (much tougher/a potential embarrassment/South China's just reward for an impressive win).

(Enjoy/endure) the game.
