10 Things You Didn't Know About Army Utd: 2013

TEN THINGS YOU DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT ARMY UTD
8th March, 2013

1. Defender Chaiwat Nakiem is heir to the Raygon mosquito spray empire.

2. Before signing for Army Utd all foreign players must learn how to say, "Halt! Who goes there? Friend or foe?" in Thai.

3. Midfielder Weerapong Moolkamsan played tambourine and sang backing vocals on the Arctic Monkeys' first lp. He befriended the band whilst visiting relatives in Sheffield.

4. Before finally settling on United, Army top brass considered, and rejected (obviously!), the following names:
Army Of Darkness FC
Army Dreamers FC
Oliver's Army FC
New Model Army FC
General Prayuth Chanocha's Barmy Army FC

5. The design of Army Utd's new home shirt is based on a pair of curtains that the chairman's wife had in her bedroom as a child.

6. Head Coach Alexandre Polking turned down the Gary Sinese role in the Brazilian TV version of CSI:New York (CSI:Sao Paulo) in order to take up the reins at Army Utd.

7. Army Utd's Cameroonian forward Matthew Mbuta joined the club after winning a TV reality show called "Search for a Striker" in his native country.

8. Prior to the 2012 FA Cup final Tata Young and the Army Utd squad recorded a version of Status Quo's 'In the Army Now'. However, the disc had to be withdrawn after it was discovered that the club had failed to get permission from the ageing British rockers' publishing company.

9. Bootlegs of the above cd are currently rumoured to be changing hands for upwards of B5,000 on the black market.

10. Army Utd once tried to sign former Wimbledon, Leeds and Sheffield Utd hardman Vinnie Jones. However, Jones - a devout pacifist - rejected the offer on moral grounds.
