Interview With Two Bangkok Utd Fans: 2009

My September, 2009 interview with Sittichai and Ton, two Bangkok Utd fans from the club's first year of existence.

What are your names and where do you come from?
S - My name is Sittichai and I come from Bangkok.
T - I'm Ton from Bangkok.

How long have you been supporting BKK Utd/Uni?
S - Since 2008, when heard that this team would be called Bangkok United.
T - Since Bangkok University were promoted to the top division. But I've only started going regularly this season.

How has everyone settled in at your new home?
S - Very well. I think most of our supporters are happy to have a new home.
T - Good. It's a bigger stadium than Bangkok University had. Which means we can attract more fans.

What sort of crowds have you been getting?
S - Good crowds. BKK Utd are trying to get fans from Bangkok. Bangkok locals and fans from Bangkok University.
T - We've been getting former Bangkok Uni supporters and people from around Din-Daeng.

What is the match day atmosphere like?
S - Honestly, BKK Utd supporters don't shout and cheer like Chonburi, but they are trying, and I believe it is getting better and better. More and more people come and watch the game every week.
T - More professional than before. We have drums and singers. We also have many activities before match, which is different from old days.

What sort of numbers are you taking to away games?
S - About 100. We call them Bangkok Hardcore.
T - It depends where we are going.

Do many of the former BKK Uni fans still support the club?
S - I have no idea but I've read on many websites that some have changed to BKK Glass or MTU. Some are still with BU.
T - We still have me at least!!

BKK Uni won the league in 2006 but haven't really achieved anything since. Why do you think this is?
S - I think that it's because BU's Board doesn't pay more attention to our team; many teams are growing faster than us.
T - I'm happy that we have won the league. I think that our players are the only ones who can answer this question.

Your owners are very ambitious and claim that you can win the TPL within three years. Do you think that this is possible?
S - Yes. Why not? We have many players who have been playing together for a long time. Our teamwork is our strongest point.
T - It will be hard to live up to this claim. The president is not involved with our players that much. This is a problem. Maybe he has lots of work to do elsewhere.

Who would you say is your best player?
S - Our centre back and captain, Punnarat (no.5). He is a former Thai national team player. He is a very strong leader and his skill is unbelievable.
T - Our right winger, Jira Charoensuk (No.14). He is a talented player and a local boy.

Is there anyone else we should keep an eye out for?
S - Wellington (No.7) a Brazilian player is one to watch. And also Suppaserd (No.12) is on form.
T - Weera, our goalkeeper, a former Thai National team keeper. Also Suppaserk (No.12). He creates chances for others and is capable of scoring himself.

Which other TPL player(s) do you wish you had at your club?
S - We need higher profile players to join our club. Suchao (TOT) is a good player but I'm not sure if he would be interested in coming to us.
T - Suriya (PEA) a former BU striker. Pattipan (PEA) a strong centre back, who is also former BU player.Nontaphan, left wing from Nakornpatom FC and Prat Samatrad (BEC Tero), a strong Centre back.

Which is the best team (BKK Utd apart) that you have seen this season?
S - Chonburi. They have more experience than Muang Thong and BKK Glass in the title race.
T - Chonburi.

Who do you think will win the TPL?
S - Bangkok United!!!! I wish!! But Chonburi is the best team at the moment.
T - Chonburi is the best team at the moment.

Where do you think you will finish in the league this year?
S - Hopefully in the top 5. We'd be happy with that.
T - Mid table.

Do you think you can win the FA Cup?
S - Sure. Why not?
T - Possibly.

We beat you 5-1 earlier this season. What do you think the score will be on Sunday?
S - 1-0 to Bangkok United. How's that?
T - There's only going to be one goal in this game.

Anything else you'd like to add?
S - Bangkok United are now very ambitious to increase our fan base and also team performance. I see that Bangkok Hardcore are working hard to cheer and support the team as well. They don't get paid to do this, they just love this club.

Thanks, guys.
S&T - You're welcome.
