Farewell To Jadet by Brian Enever: 2015

Brian Enever shares his thoughts following Jadet Meelarp's resignation in December, 2015.

FAREWELL TO JADET
by Brian Enever
14th December, 2015

Well this is good news, but as the webmaster Tweeted yesterday, our problems go a lot deeper than Jadet.

It's a pity the club didn't act earlier in an attempt to keep the spine of the team. Maybe a new coach wouldn't have wanted to keep all of them but I'm sure (whoever it is) he would have preferred the option. As it is, firstly building a new spine is not easy and, secondly, quality players are in demand and will be snapped up quickly. Dos Santos might just wait to see who arrives first though.

Also, I'm sure Heng still has a major influence with Anop, etc and will have a big say on who arrives. I remember watching him and his friends compiling a dossier at Muang Thong a few weeks ago. He was in the stand on the other side of the pitch to Jadet so they certainly weren't just making a few notes for the half time team talk.

The more I think about it the more I think Jadet is just a poor man's Heng. The way they set the team up and their tactics are very similar. They both like to defend deeper with two holding midfielders who appear to have been told they can't go ahead of the ball, then play the ball across the back, but without any penetration then going forward is slow and predictable. With both there's invariably large holes in the centre of midfield and a static front line that (Thiago excepted) seems incapable of movement.

Of course they both changed tactics occasionally by insisting defenders pump long diagonal fifty yard balls upfield to wide players that hadn't got a cat in hells chance of even touching the ball.

Wada wanted to do things his way but, even though we challenged for the double, that obviously wasn't acceptable to the powers that be and he left. The fact that he's back in Thailand and prepared to stick with Port even though they're now in Division One speaks volumes.

We need a complete change of direction, both in management and on the pitch. I hope the owners recognize that and bring in the right (experienced) coach quickly then back him to bring in the new players we need asap.

With the number of important players that have gone and rebuilding that's required in vital areas, I think it's too big a job for Therdsak to be saddled with in a first management role.

Twelve months ago, when Jadet was appointed I kept hearing 'the fans love him and will give him time'. If Therdsak was appointed I fear we will hear exactly the same comments but that's definitely not what's needed at the moment.

Sadly I feel we will end up with another Heng clone that will accept being told what to do.

One thing's one hundred percent certain, the fans won't be asked for their opinion so we'll just have to wait with baited breath.
