My Favourite Away Trips

Which is my favourite Chonburi away trip? What do I choose, and for what reasons?
Beating Buriram away in 2012, has to be one of the most amazing and exhilarating experiences. Drunk, with a real surging, packed crowd (1970’s packed!), and we outplayed them.
24/6/12 TPL: Buriram Utd 3-4 Chonburi |
Or should it be away at Customs in the 3rd round of the 2012 League Cup? Sneaking off early from work, getting lost, only to arrive at half -time to be told of an awful first half performance and sending an 11 year old boy off to buy beers, as the match drifted into extra time with a delightful winner.
22/8/12 League Cup: Customs 0-2 Chonburi (AET) |
Or is it the lovely Sukothai ground? Watching a 2015 FA Cup 3rd round tie quietly, like a game of county cricket in the UK.
29/7/15 FA Cup: Sukhothai 1-2 Chonburi |
Or maybe the heady, hard won victories against the hated Muang Thong Utd? Swearing outrageously at Robbie Fowler on Christmas Day, 2011.
25/12/11 TPL: Muang Thong Utd 1-2 Chonburi |
Or even that small loss to Bangkok United in 2017? Where we witnessed either one of the best attacking displays I have ever seen, or one of the worst defensive attempts at football.
5/7/17 TPL: Bangkok Utd 7-2 Chonburi |
Or was it that game against Tero in 2016? Where to say it flooded is an understatement, having a beer glass full of water by the end, and still we were entertained.
6/8/16 TPL: BEC Tero 1-3 Chonburi |
But truth be told, it was all of them, because the match is really just incidental to the real purpose, enjoying an evening with beers and friends. These are the memories we have. Yes, flashes of brilliance stand out, but our memories are impacted by us and how we perceive them.
